What actually happens during a visit

If you’ve never used a sitter before, it’s natural to wonder what goes on while you’re gone. Here’s exactly what a visit looks like.

1. A calm hello

I come in quietly and let your pet set the pace. Excited dogs get a moment to settle; shy cats get space until they’re ready to say hi.

2. Potty and a walk

First stop is outside. Then we walk — your usual route, or a longer outing if that’s what you’ve booked. I watch for limping, upset stomachs or anything unusual.

3. Food, water and meds

Meals are measured exactly to your instructions. Water bowls get a rinse and refill. If your pet takes medication, I give it on schedule and note the time.

4. Play and cuddles

Whatever’s left of the visit belongs to your pet: fetch, brushing, a sniff around the yard or just sitting together on the couch.

5. A quick home check

I bring in the mail if you’d like, rotate lights, check doors and windows and make sure everything’s as you left it.

Then, your update

Before I leave, you’ll get a message with photos and notes — what they ate, how the walk went and any funny moments. Most clients tell me it’s their favorite part of the trip.
